Along with divinity there are various festivals followed by Hindu like Dashain, Teej, Chath, Janai Purnima etc. Among them Tihar is one of the greatest festival which is also know as festival of light. There are various myth for celebrating Tihar and playing deusi-bhailo. It was believed that in the ancient time there was a king named BALI who was generous and helpful among others. He received his last wish to visit the world every 3 days of years before his death. So every year Bali visit earth during time of Tihar and give his blessing and prosperity to people. People gather on the day of Tihar, visit houses where they sing, dance and pray for the prosperity and wellbeing of the family and as a return they receive sweets, money from the house. Those deusi-bhailo players are believed to be companion sent by Bali. During his last wish he had also said that people would receive prosperity and happiness if they donate and serve people during the time .So it is the another reason for receiving money and gifts to deusi-bhailo players.
Hence merit Pokhara organized deusi-bhailo program for 2 days. It was the productive way for fund raising by playing deusi-bhailo for the 'Enlightment the rural" event. Though the initiation was for fund raising but later we realized the gradually fading Nepali old tradition and culture among new generation. Sustainable development doesn't indicate only growing and uplifting in technology ,infrastructure and environment. Along with that Culture, Norms, Values should be preserve simultaneously. Dance and Song were prepared by merit members with volunteers and the event was successfully conducted with the vision of fund raising and enhancing awareness about out tradition and custom.
